Born in 1946 to Thomas Sylvester and Elizabeth Beatrice Lockhart, Nathaniel Sylvester was followed two years later, to his utter dismay(then and now), by a younger brother, Gilderoy. By the time they were 5 and 3, it was clear to everybody that despite their similarities in appearance, they were as different as two brothers could be. Or, at least, it was clear to everybody but Gilderoy, who insisted on following his older brother around and being as irritating(in Nathaniel Sylvester's oppinion) as it is possible for a young boy to be. To begin with, Gilderoy called Nathaniel Sylvester "Nate". This may have been excusable at the beginning, as he was very young, but he refused to stop. It began to be a puzzling question - did Gilderoy purposely irritate his brother, was he really that oblivious, or was it a combination of the two? Nathaniel Sylvester certainly didn't care. When he was 7, he cast his first magic, and left Gilderoy stuck to that tree for two hours. Their parents took them both out to celebrate.

When Nathaniel Sylvester arrived at Hogwarts, he was sorted into Ravenclaw. This wasn't a surprise to his parents, considering they had found him reading Shakespeare when he was 6, and he began to teach himself Latin when he was 9. He had his brother's looks(or his brother had his), so by the time he was in third year, girls were already beginning to throw themselves at him. This triggered his decision that he was asexual, and also had something to do with his mild dislike of the fair sex. Fortunately for the girls, Gilderoy didn't mind this attention in the slightest, so - to the delight of both brothers - they focused on him instead. Of course, their extremely similar looks did create some confusion. Poor girls would be utterly confused as to why Gilderoy was suddenly acting very cold to them. Nathaniel Sylvester graduated with excellent N.E.W.T.s, and, for some peculiar reason, preceded to "waste" them on being the Head of Public Relations, at the Ministry. At least, he thinks it's a waste of them. He also seems to hate his job, and think its ridiculous that it needs doing. Secretly, of course, he rather likes it. And this is where we find him today.
